THE BEST OF THE BATCH FOUNDATION CLUBHOUSE is an educational and recreation facility that provides a safe place for youth to receive tutoring, STEAM exposure, coding, 3D printing, robotics, music production, and social services. Functioning as the only completely free clubhouse within a two-bus transfer of the community, the out of school time programming Best of the Batch offers reflects the wants and needs of the surrounding community.
The Best of the Batch Foundation is on a mission to expand their existing facility into a new 33,000 square foot expansion into a state-of-the-art education center at our current Clubhouse site in Homestead. The new clubhouse will feature a state of the art STEAM LAB, tutoring rooms, gymnasium, dining room, dance studio, and reading lofts. The existing building will be transformed into an administrative wing for the Best of Batch Foundations growing staff.
Studio Volcy has joined the project team as the Interior Design & 3D Visualization Consultant. All finishes, fixtures and equipment have been selected and specified by Studio Volcy.
Although the Best of the Batch Foundation provides over 12 programs to school-aged children, it was very important for the new clubhouse design to be a fun place for learning that doesn’t look or feel like school. Studio Volcy was challenged with designing a clubhouse with a non-traditional learning and recreational spaces.
Much like a school, the Clubhouse needed to be a place to learn but, it also needed to be a place where children could be creative, active and even lounge in ways that are comfortable for them. Our approach to creating a multi-faceted Clubhouse was to create spaces to: Meet. Retreat. Move. Build. Gather & Dive.
Each category has it’s own distinct color palette which also assists youth and visitors with wayfinding throughout the facility.
The STEAM Lab is a space for youth to engage in hands-on science, technology, engineering, art, and math activities that encourage creativity, curiosity, and critical thinking. The STEAM lab will be a new state of the art maker space in the renovation of the foundation’s existing building.
When you enter the Clubhouse, you’re immediately welcomed into a vibrant space that is filled with natural light and bright colors. The check-in process is designed to intrigue small kiddos and even bring out the kid in working adults. The lobby features check-in kiosks, cubby seats and creative lighting.
The Clubhouse has learning pods for elementary, middle and high school-aged kids. Each space has it’s own unique to design with the inclusion of non-traditional school seating to create a more relaxed learning environment.
